One killed in Malaysia quake

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 9 – The Security Council joined UN chief Ban Ki-moon in strongly condemning the spate of bombings which killed 127 people in Baghdad.

"I am very shocked. This is just unacceptable," the UN secretary general told reporters.

"I condemn in the strongest terms possible… the horrendous bombings," he said, after five massive vehicle-borne bombs rocked the Iraqi capital, wounding hundreds.

The 15-member Security Council later in the day also slammed "in the strongest terms the series of terrorist attacks" in Baghdad and underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, financiers and sponsors to justice.

The coordinated attacks came hours before an Iraqi official said the war-torn country\’s general election would be held on March 6.
