Moments after the results were released, jubilation filled Lily Academy. Parents, teachers and pupils flocked the school to celebrate with Mr Kamenju. The top candidate was overwhelmed with joy and said his wish is to join Alliance Boys High school.

“I am very excited. It’s actually a surprise to me,” he said amid song and dance.

Headmistress Anne Muturi praised Kamenju for his hard work and discipline.

Meanwhile a total of 1904 candidates will have their results cancelled for cheating.

Prof Ongeri said the candidates came from 80 schools 33 of which are private schools. He regretted that for the first time in the history of the examinations mobile phones were used in cheating and a teacher arrested assisting pupils through text messages.

The Minister said disciplinary action will be taken against school administrators of the involved institution.
