Statement by Kibaki and Raila on ICC

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 5 – Statement by H.E. the President and the Right Honorable Prime Minister.

–    We have had a constructive meeting with Mr. Louis Moreno- Ocampo, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The discussions were candid and frank.  Mr. Moreno-Ocampo has explained to us his mandate and how he intends to execute that mandate.

–    The Government remains fully committed to discharge its primary responsibility in accordance with the Rome Statute to establish a local judicial mechanism to deal with the perpetrators of the post election violence.

–    In addition, the Government remains committed to cooperate with ICC within the framework of the Rome Statute and the International Crimes Act.
