Bolder, Provocative station for Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 – After 13 years of dominating the Kenyan radio market, 98.4 Capital FM has taken a bolder and provocative turn in its quest to remain the station of choice locally and for the Diaspora.

The streets of Nairobi came abuzz early on Wednesday as the crew on Capital in the Morning broadcast from a hand-drawn cart that did the rounds within Nairobi’s main highways.

Seanice & Fareed rode around Nairobi from Museum Hill, Muthaiga roundabout, Hurlingham to Uhuru Highway where Capital FM staff handed out flyers and rewarded listeners with movie tickets to watch the premier of The Hangover this Friday at the Westgate Silver Bird Cinemas.

Throughout the month of August, 98.4 Capital FM will reward listeners and carry out exciting things both on-air and on-ground. Capital In The Morning now starts at 5am instead of 6am; The Jam now starts at 3pm – not 2pm – and there’s a one-hour mix with DJ Adrian from 2pm-3pm, a new addition called Radio Active.

Capital FM Programmes Director Seanice Kacungira said that the change was to ensure the station stays more tightly crafted and geared to educate, inform and entertain its listeners with more provocative interviews and content.

"It’s not a re-launch.  It is a revamp.  it is looking at our programming and saying let’s do something that will excite the market and let’s keep our listeners coming back for more.  It’s about putting more variety out there," she said.

Ms Kacungira added that the revamp included changes that would see the introduction of new shows and also adjustment in schedules of some shows.

"We have a new weekend show that should be debuting this weekend called Dance Republic.  The Jam is now starting at 3pm and we have a new presenter officially joining the boys…. that’s Charles Kiarie.  We are looking at new ways to keep our listener happy.  That is what the Bolder-Provocative campaign is all about.  It is about having fun!"

98.4 Capital FM has been on air for more than 13 years and is now going a step further to please its listeners. All the shows are making changes to features, some to music and all to imaging and presentation style.
