MESSAGE BY MR. CHRIS KIRUBI, CHAIRMAN, THE CAPITAL GROUP LIMITED, ON THE LAUNCH OF THE COMPANY’S DIGITAL MEDIA ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 2008.
NAIROBI, September 4 – It is with great pleasure that we officially announce the launch of The Capital Group’s digital media: www.capitalfm.co.ke. This new addition to the Capital Group is testament of our dedication to become a worldwide broadcasting station and information source for Kenyans and Africans; at home and in the Diaspora.
It is evident now that the future of media is online. The Capital Group has embraced this concept by providing news, business, sports and entertainment portals through our new look website. We aspire to provide you with easy access to up-to-date and real information that is relevant when you need it.
Our audience can now read current news as it happens, without having to wait for a printed edition the next day. Our audience can read interesting features themed on technology, education, development, industry or politics without having to purchase a newspaper or magazine.
Our younger radio listener audience, the youth, whom we cherish and listen to, asked for more interaction between them and our radio station 98.4 Capital FM. The good news is that they can now go online to Capital radio’s website and do a number of things- listen to live radio through streaming, chat or blog with our radio presenters, find out about upcoming social events, simply play online games, or just listen to music personally selected by our radio presenters.
Our sports enthusiasts on the other hand, have a portal to read headline sports stories from around the world and in-depth features on football, rugby, athletics, motor cross and more, brought to you by our award winning sports desk.
And finally, our corporate audience can visit our business website for news, features and opinions on local and international business, as well as access information on markets, or foreign exchange.
Our decision to embark into the digital era was made many years ago, but could only become a reality with appropriate technological infrastructure in place. Today, we witness the actualisation of that dream; to offer our radio listeners more value in reward for your loyalty and faithfulness to 98.4 Capital FM. And I believe that together we can shape the Capital Group into the most admired media brand in East Africa and beyond.
We would like to encourage the Ministry of Information and Communication to continue their efforts in ensuring that broadband costs are reduced for all Kenyans to connect to the world through the Internet.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and suppliers in this venture, who have worked with us to produce and publish these fantastic websites. They are Zamoya.com, Go Green Limited, Eight Limited, Forex.co.ke, and Google East Africa.
Welcome to the Capital Group’s website! I welcome your feedback and suggestions.
