Tsvangirai to arrive in SAfrica

JOHANNESBURG, August 15 – Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is expected to arrive in South Africa this morning after being briefly prevented from attending a regional summit, when his travel documents were seized by authorities in Harare airport on Thursday, his spokesman said.

"Tsvangirai is arriving in Johannesburg at 0700 GMT. He took the next available flight after his documents were released on Thursday afternoon," said the spokesman, George Sibotshiwe.

Tsvangirai was on Thurday briefly detained with his party number two, Tendai Biti and party international relations secretary Eliphas Mukonoweshuro.

Tsvangirai who is part of the adjourned Zimbabwe power-sharing talks is attending the weekend 14-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting in South Africa.

He is scheduled to meet with the troika, the SADC organ on politics and defence.

The power sharing talks are currently stalled after Tsvangirai said he needed more time to consider a deal agreed by the other main participants, President Robert Mugabe and leader of a smaller breakaway opposition faction, Arthur Mutambara.
