Five arrested in Fazul terror pursuit

MOMBASA, August 5 – Police in Mombasa have arrested five more suspects as the operation to capture wanted terror suspect Fazul Abdullah Mohammed intensified.

This brings to eight the number of suspects mopped up in an operation that began Saturday night in Malindi, which Fazul narrowly escaped.

Two of the suspects were arrested on Monday while three others were picked up on Tuesday by officers from the Anti Terrorism Police Unit.

A senior ATPU officer said they are trying to establish whether the suspects are linked with the family of three who were was charged in court on Tuesday for allegedly harbouring and helping Fazul to escape.

And in Tanzanian authorities are on high alert after the word of Fazul’s escape went round.

Acting Inspector General of Police Paul Chagonja said his officers are collaborating with Kenyan security organs.

Fazul Abdullah, an al-Qaeda associate, was the mastermind of the simultaneous bombing of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam 10 years ago.
