Kenya humbles Cameroon in rugby qualifier

NAIROBI, July 13 – The national 15s rugby team handed Cameroon a76-8 thrashing in a World Cup qualifier at RFUEA grounds on Sunday.

Kenya ran the jetlagged visitors rugged in an impressive performance scoring ten tries with Collin Collins Injera the pick of Kenya’s players with hatrick of tries. Skipper Innocent Simiyu, George Mbaye, Humphrey Kayange, Lavin Asego and Horace Otieno all touched down.

The match was meant to be played on Saturday but a visa hitch saw some members of the Cameroonian team unable to leave Douala. Only 12 players arrived from Douala on Friday night after the visa snag that saw the match pushed forward to Sunday.

Another seven players of the Cameroonian team arrived Sunday morning, and the game kicked off as planned in the afternoon.

Kenya last met Cameroon in July 2007, where they once again scored a 22-19 victory.

The national team will next face Tunisia in an away match on August 2.
