Prison warder arrested selling ammunition

NAIROBI, May 29 – Police have arrested a prison warder who was caught selling ammunition in a Nairobi supermarket.

The warden attached to the Kamiti maximum security prison was detained on Wednesday after being caught red-handed at a supermarket in Kahawa West, said police spokesman Eric Kiraithe.

"Police on patrol received a tip off. So they went there and laid an ambush," he told Capital News of the operation.

Officers who were able to identify the suspect then took him down upon entering the supermarket.

"When the suspect appeared they pounced. On searching him they found 16 rounds of rifle ammunition and four blank rounds of ammunition."

"Sixteen rounds of ammunition for a G3 rifle means utter devastation. The warden will be charged with illegal possession of ammunition," he said.
