\"Cyrus-Kabiru_C-Stunners_2015_webslider\"<\/p>\n

The talented Kenyan artist Cyrus Kabiru brings his remarkable creations to Cape Town for his first South African solo exhibition.<\/p>\n

Kabiru\u2019s C-Stunners & Black Mamba<\/em> is being exhibited at SMAC Art Gallery in Woodstock, and will run through to 14th of March, 2015.<\/p>\n

The self-taught sculptor and painter is known for his work which embodies his role as a \u201ccollector\u201d of Nairobi cast-offs – refashioning recycled and found materials.<\/p>\n

Kabiru\u2019s C-Stunners<\/em> captures the sensibility and attitude of Nairobi’s youth generation\u00a0through artistic bifocals. The work sits between fashion, wearable art, performance and one-of-a-kind commodity objects that portray the aspiration of popular culture ‘bling’ \u2013 reflecting the ingenuity and resourcefulness of people and the lenses provide a new filter giving a fresh perspective that transforms the wearer in appearance but also in mind frame.<\/p>\n

This exhibition also combines, for the first time, Kabiru\u2019s C-Stunners<\/em>\u00a0with his Black Mambas <\/em>that\u00a0are fixed gear bicycles, which have achieved an iconic status in Kenya as\u00a0an affordable and popular method of transport for the Kenyan population.<\/p>\n
