Legendary US soul musician Bobby Womack died Friday at the age of 70, his publicist said. Womack, who wrote R&B hits such as “It’s all Over Now” for The Rolling Stones and “Lookin’ for a Love”, had struggled with health issues in recent years.<\/p>\n
The cause of his death was not yet known, according to his publicist, Sonya Kolowrat at XL Recordings.<\/p>\n
Womack, who was inducted into the\u00a0Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\u00a0in 2009, started performing gospel music with his brothers in the 1950s as the lead singer of The Valentinos.<\/p>\n
After the band broke up, Womack played guitar and worked with popular artists such as Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield and Ray Charles, becoming a major figure in rhythm and blues with a\u00a0career spanning seven decades.<\/p>\n
Womack, a prolific songwriter, composed songs across for both the rock and soul genres. His hits included\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s All Over Now\u201d, recorded by the Rolling Stones in 1964, and \u201cTrust Me\u201d for Janis Joplin, which was released after her death.<\/p>\n
His solo singing career produced a string of hits, including 1972\u2019s \u201cThat\u2019s The Way I Feel About ‘Cha\u201d and \u201cWoman\u2019s Gotta Have It\u201d.<\/p>\n
