the cameras are not to make arrests, they’re there so that people dont take the law lightly and disobey the lights

Another O-Ondieki idea. In the United States when this law was tried, people went to court to challenge that law. The law is you ticket the driver, not the owner of the vehicle. And those cameras take license tag, but not face imprint. Meaning you are ticketing the owner, not the driver-offender. In the United States that law fell, and for good reason. Punishing someone who did not offend just because they own the property the offense was committed on has never been good law.

American laws don’t apply to Kenya. When you ticket the car owner the driver gets fired so there is some effect to this.

You are wrong. In the UK, as a registered owner of the vehicle, you have an opportunity to produce the driver at the time, failure to which, the responsibility lies on your head. Now, do you want Kidero to abandon the idea because of the American experience? Finally, you are a very very bad person. How do you call this “another O-Ondieki” idea? You mean all ideas coming from people from the lakeside should be brushed aside by people from central and tagged “O”. Take your tribal madness away.

Suppose there is a jam and the lights change to red when you are still stranded at the centre of road before you turn where the camera is? How will you remember the ‘situation ” 3 months after when you receive the ‘punishment’ note? The cameras will see the ‘thugs’? thats funny! How? The thugs are not always ‘facing and stealing” where the cameras are facing….. I dont understand why the cameras were installed!

Njoro, in London it is an offence to stop in the junction box if the lights are red. You need to calculate before you enter the yellow box that ahead is clear otherwise, you will obstruct the other vehicles and this calls for an automatic penalty. We need to embrace this and until ahead is clear, DO NOT enter into the yellow box. The only thing, I find with this cameras is that they are totally different from what we see in the other countries which calculate your speed and offence. These are just CCTV camera’s and a human brain has to be behind them to make judgement is you committed a crime or not before issuing a ticket. In this case, your guess is as right as mine because we know the brain behind this will be very loaded! However, it is the right step forward though. Kudos Kidero. Thumbs up.
