Sauti Sol reigned supreme, thrilled fans at Magical Kenya Open Village #TBT

They always understand the assignment 100%. They are undoubtedly Kenya’s most loved music band.

On Saturday, March 5th, Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol literally brought the house down during their performance at The Entertainment Village during the Magical Kenya Golf Open 2022. The boys, Bien-Aimé Baraza · Willis Austin Chimano · Polycarp Otieno · Savara Mudigi electrified the crowd and had fans singing along to their massive hits both old and new. The crowd couldn’t get enough of their spectacular performance and kept asking for more hits over and over and over. There is no doubt that Sauti Sol has the chops of a true powerhouse. Saturday night was honestly and indeed, one not to be missed.

The Entertainment Village was all thanks to Kenya Breweries Limited, through its premium whisky brand Johnnie Walker and its sponsorship of Ksh. 69.5 million towards the 2022 Magical Kenya Open. As part of the sponsorship, the move saw the company secure the rights to be the tournament’s Official Alcohol Beverage Partner. Johnnie Walker provided spectators and golfers a memorable experience at the event’s tournament village – which featured a host of top deejays, Kenyan leading artists as well as great food and entertainment all through the 4 days of the Tournament.

After a day of golf, the entertainment village was the place to be at every evening with an array of top deejays and artists taking to the stage to entertain spectators attending the event. Besides Sauti sol, other artists who took to the stage over the four days were Kagwe Mungai, Khaligraph Jones, Fena Gitu and as well as DJs Nijo, Pinye and Grauchi.

The Kenya Open, which was first held in 1967, has grown to become one of Kenya’s most prestigious sporting events. This year’s edition marks the first time the European Tour has visited the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club, which was established in the 1920s. The 2022 Magical Kenya Open took place at the historic Muthaiga Golf Club, which has so far hosted 40 previous seasons including the tournament’s first edition in 1967. The 2022 Magical Kenyan Open golf tournament was won by Ashun Wu from China while 18-year old Kenyan Njoroge Kibugu emerged the winner on the amateur category.

President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the golfing fraternity in the country for developing golf and ensuring Kenyans from all walks of life embrace the game.

The President said unlike in the past when golf was a preserve of the elite in the society, the game has developed to become an all-inclusive sport enjoyed by Kenyans of all ages, colour and station.

“Golf has had a very long history from its beginning as a sport for the social elites. Today, it is a game that truly demonstrates the face of Kenya with players and fans from all walks of life,” President Kenyatta said.

Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director Jeremy Awori emphasized the important role played by the tournament in reinforcing the country’s positioning as a global sporting and tourism destination, since it is one of Kenya’s top sporting events with a large local, regional and global reach. “Today, the Magical Kenya Open is now one of the biggest sporting events in sub-Saharan Africa and has contributed immensely to the promotion of Kenya as a global golfing and sports tourism destination. In addition, this tournament allows us as a brand to connect with our fellow countrymen at their passion points and we are looking forward to this year’s to a magical experience this year,” he added.
