Incredible Macallan food pairing dinner held at The Social House, Nairobi

A growing trend in the industry that has grown popular in recent times, is the love and appreciation for pairing food with drinks, and not just any drink but pairing food and whisky, a match made in heaven. Whisky can provide a variance of flavours and aromas that completes the food and creates an amazing delightful indulgence.

Few beverages have cultivated the reverence that whisky has. The drink is rich with history, craftsmanship and culture. A premium whisky, conversely, comes with a deep history and personal geographical stamp. Drinking it will present images of landscape, people, place, and culture. These are one with flavour, elevating the drinking experience to a moment of sublimity.

On Thursday evening, The Slater Whittaker LTD group, distributors of Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky, together with Sherlyne Muita, Macallan Brand Ambassador for Kenya and Thami Banda, Macallan Brand Ambassador for South Africa, hosted a private single malt tasting dinner at the swanky Social House Nairobi, in the heart of Lavington.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the worlds’ most admired and awarded single malt whiskies. The reputation of The Macallan is based on a product of outstanding quality and distinctive character. An obsession with excellence has been the hallmark of The Macallan since its founding, by Alexander Reid, on a plateau above the river Spey in north-east Scotland.

It was a night of elegant simplicity and dining excellence amongst the 25 invited guests. The Macallan Brand ambassadors offered us the opportunity to discover the exquisite The Macallan range, consisting of the triple cast matured 12 years old, the double cask 15 years old and the double cask 18 years old while taking us through a sensory 3-course journey of distinctive tastes and aromas.

In 2018, The Macallan unveiled its new £140 million distillery and visitor experience on its Speyside estate, increasing investment in whisky, warehousing and in The Macallan’s signature sherry-seasoned oak casks.  The new distillery marks an important milestone, recognising the significant journey of The Macallan since 1824 and marking an exciting new chapter in the evolution of the luxury single malt.

It was great to meet the only female whisky brand ambassador in Kenya, Sherlyne Muita, a whisky and wine collector. Sherlyne is part of a club of Women Who Whisky in Kenya, where female drinkers meet to enjoy a tipple or learn about alcohol.

The Macallan is now recognized as one of, if not the finest, malt whiskies ever to grace Scotch whisky. They also happen to be extremely collectable.
