Popular Kenyan Vlogger and Tv personality Sharon Mundia’s Lamu posts have made it to a top US Magazine’s recommended bucket list as a must visit island. Essence magazine, a popular premiere lifestyle, fashion and beauty magazine for African-American women, described the Kenyan coastal town as a true gem where travelers seeking to feel at home should visit. It went further to say Lamu island is proof that there’s more to Kenya than Safaris going by the travel posts on Instagram by Sharon Mundia who also goes by the brand name, This is Ess.
When we called her for a comment, the ever bubbly Sharon Mundia couldn’t hide her joy excitedly saying, “..I had no idea they’be running the story so you can only imagine my shock when i realized that not only did i get featured on an iconic magazine that celebrates black culture, beauty and excellence; but they were also highlighting my favorite place on earth.” Sharon confesses to loving the island in all its serenity for its history and culture, sense of community, simplicity of life, and peace that she says can only be described as Godly.
Here are the four reasons you should visit Lamu, as recommended by Essence, seen through Sharon Mundia’s eyes.

Lamu Island over the years, has often been described by many as one magical place that you should visit at least once in your lifetime. It is a place like no other, a peaceful tropical island where life is lived at it’s own relaxed rhythm, but a place whose history is as mysterious and fascinating as the winding streets of it’s medieval stone town. We hope this endorsement will help continue putting Lamu on the map. Essence prides itself as the most popular, well respected, and largest circulated black women’s magazine in history. Add Lamu to your bucket list and you wont regret it, advises Sharon (all photos courtesy of This Is Ess on Instagram).
