Listen Up: 15 U.K artists you need to hear

The world of music has diversified, new genres popping up left right and centre. But what are the cool ones listening too. Why not highlight the top 10 women in music right now you didn’t know about but need too. Tell your playlist I said “You’re welcome”

 

1. Etta Bond (Rhythm and blues/ funk & gospel)

Henrietta “Etta” Bond is a British singer-songwriter after becoming friends with Labrinth thanks to a fluke Myspace encounter.

 

2. Little Simz (Rap/Hip-Hop)

25 year old, Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, better known by her stage name Little Simz, is an English rapper, singer and actress. 

3. Big Joanie (Punk/ Rock)

Big Joanie is a British punk trio formed in London in 2013. Its members are Stephanie Phillips, Estella Adeyeri, and Chardine Taylor-Stone.

 

 

4. Cleo Sol (R&B/Soul)

20 year old west Londoner Cleo Sol was born to musical parents. Her Mother, half Serbian and Spanish, is a singer and plays the guitar and flute. Cleo’s Jamaican Dad plays the bass and piano. 

5. IAMDDB (Jazz influenced trap)

23 year old,  Manchester-based rapper and singer draws on her Angolan and Portuguese heritage, with a very British voice.

6. Aliciai Harley (Dancehall)

23 year old, Kingston-born, South London-raised vocalist has a good chance of rising over the course of 2019.

 

7. Object Blue (Dance/electronic)

May be a relative newcomer, but she’s helped push club music to its experimental edge over the past couple of years.


8. Lava La Rue (Soul/Hip-Hop)

20 year old, West London rapper, singer, producer and clothing designer is the leader of the NINE8 collective. Floating somewhere between singing and evocative raps.

 

 

9. ABRA (Indie Pop)

Gabrielle Olivia Mirville, known professionally as Abra, is an American singer, songwriter, actress and record producer signed to Awful Records. 

10. Jaz Karis (R&B/Soul)

20 year old, South London Singer-songwriter Jaz Karis. She has been active within the music scene for four years now, including her journey through BRIT School.


11. Solid Blake (Techno)

A founding member of the now-disbanded Apeiron Crew, the Glasgow-born DJ and producer cut her teeth playing hard-and-fast techno at the city’s venues like Culture Box.

 

12. Klein (New Jazz)

fragments of genres like jazz, jungle, and R&B. Her music is hard to find but so worth it. Once you find her.

 

13. Mahalia (R&B/Soul)

21 year old, Mahalia Burkmar better known by the stage name Mahalia, is an English singer, songwriter and actress, based in Birmingham. Recently nominated for a Brit award.

14. Big Piig (Jazz soul)

20 year old with the sweetest voice in south London makes stoned-out jazzy songs that would sit perfectly on a playlist with Nilüfer Yanya and Jamie Isaac.

22 year old DjOr:La is an Irish producer based in Liverpool, who connects the dots between jungle, techno, and bass in breakbeat-heavy dancefloor-fillers that already feel classic
