When you’re feeling blue, tired or stressed, resist that slab of chocolate, and boost your mood with healthy munchies that will make you feel good instead.

Beat the blues

A toasted English muffin with a dollop of blueberry jam (no butter) will do the trick when you’re down in the dumps.

This is a great low-fat, low-protein, high-carbohydrate snack that will leave you feeling satisfied – without that yukky, sluggish feeling afterwards.

Jolt your sleepiness

Swap your heavy supper meals for a lighter dinner instead.

Try a protein-packed salad with beans or chicken, avo, spinach, grated carrots and baby tomatoes. Add a tiny low-fat, high-carb snack such as a piece of fruit and some graham crackers/rice cakes for an extra boost.

Bat away stress

Resist grabbing a bag of chips when you’re feeling anxious or stressed and go for a homemade shake instead. This shake will help rebound cravings or overeating and improve your mood.

How to make your stress-away shake:

  • Blend one banana, one cup of pineapple juice, half a cup of orange juice or strawberries, the pulp of one papaya, and one to three teaspoons of flaxseed oil.
  • Drink with a mineral supplement containing 100% of the daily value of nutrients and 200 micrograms of chromium picolinate.
