H&M introduces Recycled Cashmere and Velvet Made from Recycled Polyester

Brianna Lance, Athena Calderone and May Kwok

On Thursday, September 20th, H&M celebrated its first ever fall/winter Conscious Exclusive collection with an intimate luncheon co-hosted by longstanding environmentalist Susan RockefellerKate YoungAthena Calderone and Brianna Lance came together alongside other sustainably minded guests such as Barbara Burchfield and Lauren Singer to view the new collection set amidst the scenic surroundings of Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture and Blue Hill at Stone Barns. The new collection, which introduces recycled cashmere and velvet made from recycled polyester, will be available exclusively at hm.com beginning Thursday, September 27th.

The new capsule, which is inspired by the life and journey of a lost fragment of ancient tapestry, marks the eighth Conscious Exclusive collection overall but is the first time a Conscious Exclusive collection will be available in the fall. Over thirty garments and accessories, all made from sustainable materials, were developed. The collection introduces two brand new materials of recycled cashmere and velvet made from recycled polyester featured in items such as a floor sweeping coat and a tailored wide leg pant.

The intimate event featured a meal sourced from the surrounding fields and pastures. Guests were then invited to a sustainably curated Farmer’s Market with featured product from brands such as H&M, FEED, Mother Dirt, Package Free Shop, and Stone Barns Center. The gathering brought together eco-minded pioneers to show that there is no competition when it comes to a more sustainable fashion future.

H&M and sustainability advocate Susan Rockefeller partnered together to curate the details of the event which also closely aligns with Musings, a curated cross-category sustainable idea and innovation platform founded by Susan. Coming together was only natural, as both are leaders at addressing and finding solutions for a more sustainable fashion future.
