The 101 on apple cider vinegar and why you need it in your life

Shares

You’ve probably heard the recent buzz around apple cider vinegar (ACV) and the numerous claims behind this simple yet potent drink. But what is ACV anyway?

Well this popular condiment is made from fermented apple cider that form health-promoting enzymes and probiotics. It has fewer calories and sugar than actual apple juice and whereas the obvious use for it is in salads as dressing, it has incredible benefits to your health.

ACV Benefits

For centuries, people have used ACV in their daily routines for its healing and boosting properties. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider including it in your diet.

  • Great for skin as it’s been known to reduce acne and scarring.
  • Boosts gut health by including a dose of healthy bacteria into your diet. Beneficial bacteria actually helps boost immune systems and improves your ability to absorb nutrients.
  • Regulates blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity.
  • Helps with weight loss by reducing your body’s caloric intake (although effects will only really be noticeable if this is in combination with a good diet and regular exercise).
  • Promotes heart health by lowering cholesterol.
  • It’s a great, natural way to help reduce high blood pressure.
  • Helps with acid reflux

Recommended Use

Now that you know what it is and how great it is for your body, here’s how to include ACV into your diet.

For beginners, try starting with just a tablespoon a day, right before bed. And if that acidic punch is too much for you to bear, try adding it to half a glass of water and adding a teaspoon of honey. Give it a couple of weeks and see if it’s made any difference to your health/skin!

Note that just with anything else in life, too much of ACV may be counterproductive. In fact, it may weaken your immune system and amongst other things so just take it slow and easy before gulping down glasses of this liquid.

Ultimately, science shows that there are health benefits aplenty where ACV is concerned so here’s to a healthy gut, ladies and gents!
