One of the biggest lies sweeping through both self-help and western religion is the notion that you can have anything you want. Just have enough faith/belief/positive affirmation and it can be yours! Sadly, this is not quite true.

It is an incomplete statement as it conveniently leaves out the bits about time and hard work.

Get it into your head: if you are looking at a new relationship or are currently in one, and if you want it to be awesome, then it will take time and hard work.

If you are not prepared to invest either, then save your partner the heartbreak and walk away now.

A good relationship, even the best, will be fraught with incompatibilities, disagreements and awkward silences. These are not signs that the relationship is doomed, or that you are not right for each other: they are simply indications that you are both human beings and there is work to be done.

Congratulations, you are in a relationship!
