The ultimate guide to your makeup expiration dates

I love playing with makeup as much as the next girl and although my modest collection may not be fully equipped with the latest Anastasia Beverly Hills palette and designer foundations alike, it does meet my current needs.

Admittedly, my dream of having an envy-inducing collection previously drove me into a mild case of hoarding. Foundations that hadn’t been used since university and lip glosses that started to smell funny littered my dresser.

According to a 2015 Stowaway Cosmetics and Poshly study, I’m not the only woman guilty of this as 89 per cent of women hold onto old makeup “just in case” they ever have use for it again! Shame.

Over the past six to 12 months, I’ve gotten better about throwing out or giving away makeup items that I no longer use but when it comes to my absolute favourite ones, I may be guilty of holding onto them long after their shelf life.

In an effort to have a more sanitary makeup collection, I scoured the internet to find out how long we should ideally keep makeup products for.
