After dating show boom, TV helps you get a divorce

The dating show boom that has swept the world’s television screens since the success of “Married at First Sight” may be coming to an end, experts predict.

Now it is time to get divorced.

Producers are falling over themselves to make new shows about warring couples where everything has gone wrong.

Analyst Virginia Mouseler said at the world’s top TV gathering MIPTV in the French resort of Cannes on Monday that the tsunami of classic dating shows that followed the US blockbuster had run its course.

“In the three years since ‘Married at First Sight’ the tide seems to have turned,” she said.

Instead a host of new shows are coming with couples making dramatic last-ditch attempts to save their relationships — or deciding to split.

The Latvian hit “Mirror of Truth” puts unhappy couples through intense therapy and then asks them to choose whether they should stay together.

The cathartic “One Night with My Ex” from Britain’s Channel 5 locks both partners from a failed relationship in an apartment “for the most intense night of their lives”.

The idea is that they either salvage something from the wreckage or get the answers they need to move on, said Mouseler, who heads The Wit, an influential trends newsletter.

Couples go on a nostalgic journey to see if they can rekindle the spark in Finland’s “Rewind Love”, while across the Baltic Sea in Denmark they take a more ruggedly radical approach.

– Sexual healing –

In “Wild Therapy” bickering couples are dropped into the wilderness with a special forces veteran and life coach who tests them to breaking point to see where the problem in their relationship lies.

The new Dutch show “A Whole New Beginning” takes the idea to another level by getting families to sell-up and move to a South American jungle to begin again from scratch.

Each family is given 75,000 euros ($80,000) to build a new home and life, while their assets at home are frozen.

Naturally, sex is the root of much of the discord.

The upcoming Israeli show “Sex Tape” takes the bull by the horns in a new form of public sex therapy where couples are encouraged to film their lovemaking.

They then must share their experiences with other couples in a similar situation in group therapy sessions, where each watches and comments on the other’s sex tapes.

The Dutch show “On Top with Goedele” takes a slightly less outrageous approach to tackling simmering frustrations under the sheets.

The host encourages couples to talk about their real sexual needs and uses facial mapping and eye tracking technology to better identify their hidden desires.

Of course if people were more careful before they rushed up the aisle they would save themselves a lot of misery. Which is why Latin American producers have come up with two shows to test love to the limits first.

– Five-month stag party –

Chile’s “Double Temptation” puts soon-to-be-married couples in adjoining Big Brother-style houses to see if they can resist the blandishments of “14 attractive singletons” bent on seducing them.

“Marry If You Can” from neighbouring Argentina subjects couples to a five-month stag party replete with multiple temptations.

“Only true love can pass the test”, the producers claim, with the winning couple getting a house, a paid-for paradise wedding and a honeymoon.

British channel E4 uses a more scientific approach. Its “Game of Clones” gives contestants the choice of eight identically dressed possible partners who exactly meet the physical criteria demanded.

“It all comes down to personality when they all look the same,” the creators declared.

And the US show “The Game of Dating” lets viewers at home pitch in on whether a date is really boyfriend or girlfriend material.

Sweden’s TV3, however, knows that the real way to a woman’s heart is a man’s toolbox. In “Handyman Wanted” it tries to pair “three strong, independent women who want to build their dream home” with the most qualified men.

“Remake your home and your heart at the same time,” Mouseler said. “Every woman loves a plumber,” especially, it turns out, one who can take orders.

Not everyone has given up on romance though. Nor is it ever too late. Belgium’s “Hotel Romantiek” took 40 pensioners to the Swiss Alps for a week of high jinks.

The two hosts choose a “perfect match” from among them, who then cross a mountain lake in a swan pedal boat to spend the night in a love-nest cabin.

Uhuru should be candid enough and be a patriotic citizen rather than show explicit obsession to power. It is crystal clear in the mind of Uhuru that he voluntarily resigned from finance docket when the ICC confirmed the charges. The questions that many kenyans should ask themselves is : why will one present to lead the same humanity that he is charged with killing it? ICC is a reality that Uhuru and his accomplice, Ruto should tackle before they transverse the nation with their voter hunting exercise. I challenge Uhuru to make a list of his corruption cases and compare with those of Raila. Even if Raila stole the Kisumu molasses , Raila has fewer cases as compared to Uhuru. It is common sense that we cannot compare Raila and Uhuru . Uhuru belong to a strong cartel mafia from central people who have played a big role in bring Kenya to its knees economically. Uhuru supporters include: Kabogo, sonko and other drug cartels who owns vasts bloody properties in Kenya and should be allowed to get into power, In fact Uhuru and Ruto pose a serious threat to security during election as they want power by all means to caution their ICC monster before their eyes. These two people should be incarcerated.

  • Brother Uhuru Kenyatta must be a very confused man. Thats because before ICC cases came rudely raining, he was just another below average politician overshadowed by late father’s fame. Its therefore absultely true his political career has been built by those cases! He only became a serious presidential candidate after he went around the country playing victim. While purporting to be prayed for. Needless to say, what happened a few days before his first visit to the Hague, cant match with prayers at all! He should therefore not pretend that bringing up ICC issue, thats already a grave matter for the country, in campaigns is improper, when his candidacy sure product of same! This also exposes his unbelievable self-fishness, for when ICC cases were serving well, discussing them was automatic! Its no wonder that he has refused to give IDP folks some place settle, even when armed with huge tracks of land! But he wont hesisate to seek their votes! A real leader cant be that self-centred at all!

Obviously, Uhuru thinks that Kenyans are as naive as himself. Thats why he has not attempted to tell them what will happen if he is elected and economic sanctions come crashing on them. He has even involved himself in pronouncements that are highly contradictory. For instance, he and his running mate have crowned themselves as guys who promise and deliver. But close scrutiny reduce them to close to conmen. Certainly, to arrogate yourself such self-serving high tower, proven track record has to be evidentlty there. One item affair, like reducing fertilizer prices, cant even be remotely termed as track record. And moreso, when it served only a tiny propotion of the population. And again, being associated with ambigious utterly unauthenticated suggestions, that border on funny illusionary dream, cant be surely called track record!

Kenyans must indeed guard against frightened insdividuals that are trying to cock them in a bottle. Too many times we dont seem to discern what we are being told. For example, Uhuru and his running mate, are promising Kenyans all manner of things. However, the two are definitely fighting not even for their political lives, but for their real lives! You imagine what they would be if they are sentenced to jail terms by ICC that run to 50 or so years. The ICC cases, despite pretentious empty bravado, are matter of life and for these guys. Ironically, these hopeleslly crippled guys are then telling Kenyans that they are going help them walk! Uhuru and Ruto are certainly too desperate for help to help others. And leadership assumed in their current desperate bitter premise CANT be of any use to the country at all. Furthermore, leadership is about humility not the violent outbursts we have seen so far.

TNA that bought other guys to form to jubilee alliance is only PNU in different uniform. We must understand that PNU has miserably failed to guarantee our security. How Uhuru and Ruto are going to change is hard discern. And insult to injury, internal security minister is a card carrying member of TNA! So any Kenyan expecting better security if Uhuru wins, is awfully dreaming. We need to remember that even during liberation struggle, but soldiers who just emerged from the bushes, never went straight to top leadership. A cooling period was always essential to help them regain their level-headedness. In our today’s case, Uhuru and Ruto are bitter bruised fellows behaving like marauding animals violently trying to find escape route. And in that miserable situation, they are pretending that they can bring heaven down here for us!!!!

Surely these Jubilee chaps must be confused…it is they who voted for the Hague option by rejecting the setting up of a local tribunal, it is they who say any of their partners must be “aware of the ICC’ calculation (to quote “Biological Duale”), it is they who went around their backyards on Prayer Rallies, it is they who have said the election will be a referendum on ICC….how do they then turn around double-faced and say “Keep ICC out of the campaigns”. This kind of double talk WILL NOT go down well with voters, wana Jubilee!!
