Kenya’s best bartenders whipped-up their best cocktails tomorrow back in May at the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year 2016 Kenyan Final held at Villa Rosa Kempinski where Artcaffe Group’s Samia Joan topped the field of competitors.
Held in Miami from 26th to 29th of September, 2016, the Global Finals will see Kenyan representative Samia compete for the coveted honour and Michito Kaneko, the winner of World Class 2015 after a hard-fought Global Final in Cape Town, South Africa, pass on his title and award the new Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year for 2016.
Samia Joan Updates
On Monday, day one of the World Class 2016 Global Final in Miami, Kenya’s representative Samia kicked off her debut on the world stage of bartending with the Pool Party Challenge where she made a cocktail inspired by Beyonce’s Lemonade and later headed into her second challenge, Blending Room. On Tuesday, Samia will be competing in the Shape of Cocktails and the Before and After Challenge.
The top 12 competitors will then be announced Tuesday evening, leaving the finalists to compete on Wednesday for the final six spots where the bartenders will then move on and launch their own Pop-Ups in Miami. The winner will then be announced on Thursday, 29th of September, 2016.
Seen as the world championships of mixology, the Diageo Reserve World Class Global Final will see competitors push the boundaries of contemporary and experiential cocktail culture throughout the grueling competition through skill, ingenuity, and perseverance.
