#BordeauxWineTour: Exploring wine regions home to “The Big Five”

Historically, in Africa, “The Big Five” commonly refers to the five animals: the elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros. But the phrase “The Big Five” in other parts of the world, refer to something completely different, such as the greatest wine estates in the world.

Château Haut Brion, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, and Château Mouton Rothschild are often referred to “The Big Five” from the storied wine region of Bordeaux, France.

This October, in an exciting new venture, Capital Lifestyle together with Maniago Executive Travel Designers will be offering an exclusive trip to this evocation of the soul of wine, and discover the main Bordeaux Appellations: Medoc, Margaux, Pauillac, St Emilion and Pessac-Léognan & Sauternes.

5-Day Bordeaux Wine Tour

As unveiled last week, this magnificent adults-only trip to the Bordeaux region  begins at the newly-opened La Cité du Vin or “The City of Wine” – a museum-theme park dedicated to wine.

The following day will be spent at Château Lynch Bages – known for its innovative and daring reputation for often being the last to harvest and as Pauillac’s greatest – where guests will be attending wine school and become their own winemaker. Guided by a sommelier, guests will learn more about the characteristics of each Bordeaux grape variety and make their own blend!

The Château’s reputation as a top quality wine producer took-off in 1945 after a series of exceptional vintages. Since then, the wine’s deep colour and tannic backbone have become part of its signature style. Following a delectable lunch at a local gourmet restaurant, the afternoon will continue with the touring of Chateaux Wine Road and a wine tasting in a Margaux Grand Cru Classification 1855. The day will be spent exploring Médoc, Margaux and Pauillac (the home to the famous Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild) – all on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary.

The charming medieval city of Saint-Émilion awaits the following day.

What else is in store for you during this 5-day trip filled with copious amounts of delicious French wine, captivating landscapes and great conversations? Stay tuned to Capital Lifestyle as the impressive itinerary is revealed!
