Ed Sheeran gave an impromptu performance at the wedding of Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid’s sister.

The 25-year-old ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker attended the wedding as he is a friend of the guitarist, and the pair took to the stage at Johnny’s younger sister Brid’s wedding to perform the Snow Patrol 2006 hit ‘Chasing Cars’.

The bride and her groom, Sandy Statham, were married in the grounds of Beech Hotel in Ardmore, Northern Ireland, and her brother Johnny along with Ed treated the newlyweds to a 30 minute set which included a version of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’.

Speaking to the Mirror newspaper Conor Donnelly, the manager of Beech Hill Country House Hotel said: “We enjoyed a wonderful day to celebrate the beautiful garden wedding of the happy couple, Brid and Sandy.

“The sun was out in force and so were the stars who wowed the guests with their talent and crowned off what was a fantastic wedding celebration.

“The wedding guests were treated to very special performance which was fitting for such a great occasion.”

Johnny, 40, also attended the event with his fiancee Courtney Cox.

The musician has been dating the 52-year-old ‘Friends’ star since 2013, and the couple announced they had got engaged in 2014.

During the trip to his sister’s wedding he and Courtney were spotted in a restaurant in Johnny’s hometown Derry.

A local was at the restaurant and she said: “They seemed very at ease with one another.

“Someone came over to speak to them and I heard her congratulate them and they were smiling and laughing.

“I presumed they must have got married already. They are a lovely couple.”

The couple were also spotted in a very un-Hollywood location – Sainbury’s supermarket.

A local teenager Maebh Fisher, stopped to take the famous couple’s photograph and her mother Rosemary described them as, “very pleasant”.

She added: “But it was just a quick stop for a picture as we didn’t want to disturb them or draw too much attention to them.”
