A concert by Kenyan musical superstar Suzanna Owiyo and talented young rappers from Mathare’s Sejorooney Kids will kick off Nairobi celebrations of 2016’s  on Friday. Kenya’s football greats, including John Baraza and Tusker’s captain James Situma, will also be on hand to sign footballs, take selfies and give interviews.

Celebrated annually on June 5th, this year’s World Environment Day will mobilize tens of thousands of people around the world to stand up to poaching and the illegal trade in ivory and other wildlife products. Hundreds of activities, from official celebrations in World Environment Day’s 2016 host-country Angola to the motorcycle Grand Prix in Barcelona and street festivals featuring Bollywood stars in Mumbai, will be held worldwide in a show of solidarity for species threatened by wildlife crime.

The events will support the United Nations’ Wild for Life Campaign, promoted by UNEP Goodwill Ambassadors Gisele Bündchen and Yaya Touré among other celebrities, which encourages people to find their kindred species and pledge action to end the illegal trade in wildlife.
