(By Shenrina Badri) Here are some types of foods that you might want to consider avoiding if you want to prevent gaining weight:
Convenience foods are generally high in fat, sugar, salt, preservatives, additives and colourants. They usually hold a very low nutritional value so rather opt to prepare your own meals instead.
Foods high in cholesterol
These foods include red meat, organ meats and crustaceans such as shrimps, prawns and crayfish. Try not to consume these foods regularly. Rather treat yourself on a special occasion if you cannot completely avoid them.
Sugar and sugar-laden foods and drinks
Be wary of what foods contain sugar and in what proportions. Many people tend to forget that drinks can also cause weight gain so pay careful attention to the type of beverages you consume as well.
Saturated fats and refined carbohydrates
Think twice before consuming products made from white flour, chocolates, chips, sweets, etc. Saturated fat is found mainly in animal products.
Hydrogenated fats and trans-fatty acids
Be sure to read food labels carefully before purchasing products. Apart from the sugar content, keep a lookout for hydrogenated fat as well as trans fatty acids content too.
