ONGEA! Eastern Africa Music Summit set for launch in Nairobi

After 10 years as Kenya Music Week, the largest Music Industry event in Sub-Saharan Africa, outside South Africa, rebranded last year to ONGEA! – The Eastern Africa Music Summit.

The inaugural ONGEA! 2016  debuts on Thursday at Sarit Centre Expo Hall in Westlands in Nairobi, Kenya and entry is free.

ONGEA! 2016 will feature three objectives of Trade, Learn and Showcase. The hall will feature 57 exhibitors, which include music Industry stakeholders, artists, producers, distributors, publishers, media houses and talent agencies, just to name a few. Induastry panels will tackle conversations in education, technology, copyright and monetization, financing, activism and social entrepreneurship, and how to get more bookings. Upcoming musicians will be able to audition for a scholarship to Sauti Academy and even record a demo for free.

There will also be more than 32 showcase performances:

  • Thursday: Likizo, Sauti Academy, Wanny Angerer, Parking Lot Grass, Mswazzi, Suzan Kerunen, H_Art the Band and Jay A.
  • Friday: Ramzey Siele, TUK Band, Rash Band, Ms. Okinda, Kimathi Marshall, Daniel Okiror, Samukat and Cannibal.
  • Saturday: Third Hand Music Band, BigMan Sam L, Dan Gee, Sali Oyugi, MC Judge, Makadem, Jefro Katai, Span 1, Yung Nnoiz, Brian Mugenyi, Pitson and Sauti Sol.
  • Sunday: Adawnage Band, Wyre, Suzanna Owiyo, Denise Gordon, Michel Ongaro, Muthoni Drummer Queen [MDQ] and Kidum – who shall be Launching his 5th Album.
