Winston Churchill’s favourite 70-year-old brandy sold for Sh12.3 million

Ararat-70

A 70-year-old bottle of Armenian Ararat Brandy was recently sold at Sotheby’s auction for Sh12.3 million ($120,000).

Ararat has been produced by the Yerevan Brandy Company since 1887. Made from spring water and Armenian white grapes, the Brandy house, is one of the favourites of Winston Churchill. The London-auction was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the former United Kingdom Prime Minister’s death.

The brandy house has won many awards and numerous medals at various international exhibitions. More recently, at the XVI International Professional Wine & Spirits Competition, Ararat was awarded gold medals for their 10- and 20-year old brandies.
