5 Tips for beautiful, healthy skin

4. Diet and exercise

It’s not news that exercise and a healthy diet benefits the body and mind, but many don’t realise that it also helps ensure beautiful, healthy-looking skin.

A healthy diet is a key component to great skin; eat mostly plants – plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, nuts and seeds; and not too much lean animal protein. These foods have wrinkle-fighting antioxidants and simultaneously hydrate your body and skin. The healthy fats, like those found in nuts and seeds (and some fish), assist in nourishing your complexion.

Dairy products tend to clog one’s skin, and alcohol has a dehydrating and ageing effect on the skin. Drink more fresh, plain (filtered) water, and fewer (or no) other beverages…you will see the difference.

5. Manage stress

Psychological stress levels lead to elevated levels of cortisol and epinephrine in the blood, both of which have a biological link to early ageing.

For healthy skin and a healthy state of mind, take steps to manage stress. Set reasonable limits for your time, scale back on your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy.
