Mercurial hip-hop great Kanye West will be honored for his career achievements during the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, the organization announced Tuesday.
The 38-year-old boundary-pushing rapper has produced “groundbreaking videos, legendary VMA performances” and has “delivered something new with every successive video,” MTV said on their website.
West, who has been named as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people, is expected to release his seventh album “Swish” soon.
The album is expected to include two already released hits — “Only One” and “All Day,” which was produced in collaboration with Paul McCartney.
MTV’s Video Vanguard lifetime achievement award has previously been given to artists including Madonna, Michael Jackson and Beyonce.
The rapper is also in contention for best video with social message for “One Man Can Change the World” with Big Sean and John Legend.
Miley Cyrus will host the event that starts at 0100 GMT Monday. Taylor Swift leads nominations with nine, followed by Ed Sheeran with six.
