Back to basics for oily skins prone to breakouts and acne

(By Chantelle Bester) Forget about fancy treatments and intricate concoctions – here are the basic skincare steps you need to follow.

  1. Cleanse twice a day, but don’t over-cleanse. If your skin feels tight after washing, your cleanser is disrupting the pH of your skin and it’s likely to be worsening your situation.
  2. Every skin benefits from acids, and oily skin even more so. Incorporate an AHA toner. You simply take a pre-soaked pad, swipe it over your skin and toss it in the bin when you’re done.
  3. Whatever you do, don’t skip moisturiser. Whether you opt for a hydrating gel or a light lotion with the added benefit of some spot-busting salicylic acid, oily skins desperately need moisture too.
