Dropping out of school is what made Kanye West famous as that’s what inspired his College Dropout album that put him on the world music map. But did you know that he is not just Kanye West anymore but Dr. Kanye West?

Yup! Dr. Kanye West received an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institution of Chicago at its annual commencement on Monday the 11th of May 2015.

As Kanye was welcomed to the stage to receive his degree, the dean of faculty and vice president of academic administration at the School of the Art Institution Chicago and who also sits on the committee that decides honorary degrees Lisa Wainwright explained how she was fascinated when she first learnt that Kanye West had attended the school.

She said, “I read it and thought, ‘Wow, this is a fantastic moment. Here is this major figure in the cultural landscape promoting art school, this guy from Chicago saying art school is cool.’ “So we thought, ‘This man deserves an honorary doctorate from us!’ He should have gone here.”

His wife Kim Kardashian West who is currently in Brazil launching her latest collection tweeted her congratulations saying “Dr. Kanye West!!!!!!! I’m so proud of you baby & I know your mom would be so proud too!!!!”
