The reflections of water from the inviting swimming pool dance on the muted sage exterior walls and even into the private spa balcony, where I was basking in my after-pampering glow.  Hotel residents lounge lazily next to the pool, some leisurely wade and swim. By now, the warm Kenyan afternoon sun had entered into the spa’s relaxation lounge, filtered through white sheers that weightlessly billow in the breeze, everything around me was covered in an even glow, including my sweet-tangy and refreshing Cashew Nut and Pear Salad with Blue Cheese. Was this ethereal oasis real?

When you’re working in Nairobi’s CBD area, the hectic pace of urban living can get to you sometimes and ethereal-anything is probably the last thing that comes to mind – but with Hemingways Nairobi, a 45-room boutique hotel nestled in the leafy suburb of Karen, offering an elevated standard of luxury, especially at their spa; taking a well-deserved break really isn’t much of a hassle and yes, an ethereal oasis does exist.

Gloriously indulgent with treatments packed full of natural goodness from France, The Spa at Hemingways Nairobi exclusively uses Anne Semonin products, which are known to combine trace elements and essential oils in a holistic approach that’s made to measure to each individual.

Before the treatment, I had a consultation with the beauty therapist, who noted down my areas of concerns. She then proceeded to skillfully customize the facial with ingredients that would be more beneficial to my skin.

I opted for the unique treatment, Cryotherapy Age Defying Facial, which comprises of using 100% Active Serums, neurocosmetic ingredients, and advanced cryo-therapy ice cubes to regain the skin’s natural youthful glow – perfect for those desk-bound or travelling individuals like me.

The cool tingling feeling all over my face, neck and décolleté was incredibly refreshing. Thanks to the special ice cubes that improve skin elasticity and forms a surface tensing film, this was far more sophisticated than just melting ice cubes on your body. The Cryotherapy Age Defying Facial was a novel experience for me, certainly completely different from any other facial experience. I had minimal expectations, but to my surprise, I left the treatment room with visibly reduced puffiness around the eyes and I had an instant brightness and glow!

Though the spa is located in the hotel, which is situated about 30 km from Nairobi’s central business district, the secluded location is what makes the spa experience. The lush grounds at the plantation-style property, the view of the iconic Ngong Hills, and chic Moorish-inspired designs in the spa puts one in a calming state immediately – truly makes a visit to The Spa a getaway.

Dedicated therapists, scenic environment, wonderful treatments and warm service – you’ll be tempted to book your next visit right after your first session.
