A beach has been closed due to a potentially explosive whale.

French authorities have closed the seaside resort of Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, near Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast and may have to use dynamite on the 15-ton carcass of a decaying beached whale.

The whale is so blown up with gas that it could and will explode at any time.

Project manager of the national reserve of Camargue, Anais Cheiron, told the Midi Libre newspaper: “The whale could be dragged out to sea and detonated using dynamite.”
