Exercising when you’re overweight can feel a little impossible, or like an uphill struggle, especially when you’re demotivated and don’t know where to begin.

Don’t feel discouraged; there’s always a starting point to any new fitness routine – no matter what your age or fitness level.

How to start exercising safely

If you’re overweight, the trick to adopting a new fitness programme, is to start off slowly and gradually up the intensity level.

This is important, as you could have underlying health issues such as high blood pressure, or be prone to overheating or dizziness.

Find the proper support

Another good tip is to find a personal trainer who has experience working with overweight people.

They will be able to provide you with a safe and easy-to-manage starting point for your new fitness routine.

Start with low-impact cardio

Don’t be impatient with yourself. Start with cardio exercises that are low-impact, and then gradually add strength training exercises to your fitness routine.
