Reese Witherspoon believes she’s revealed a different side to her after she got herself arrested last year.
The 38-year-old actress was detained in April 2013 for disorderly conduct after she screamed at a police officer when he pulled over her husband Jim Toth in Atlanta, Georgia, under suspicion of drink-driving.
The ‘Legally Blonde’ star believes the altercation, which was caught on camera and published online, proves to her fans that there are many sides to her, but she insists she’s learnt from the mistake and is sorry.
Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, she is quoted by the Hollywood Reporter as saying: “I think it was a moment where people realised that I wasn’t exactly what they thought I was.
“I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn’t know about.
“It’s part of human nature. I made a mistake; we all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on.”
Following the incident last year, the blonde beauty admitted she felt “embarrassed” by her behaviour and accepted that she was “disrespectful” to the arresting officer, but thinks it escalated as she was “frightened.”
Reese married Jim in March 2011 following a year of dating and has two-year-old son Tennessee with him.
She also has daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon, 10, with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
