Joan Rivers on life support after cardiac arrest

Joan Rivers arrives back in Los Angeles after a brief stint in Canada

Joan Rivers’ daughter Melissa is “keeping her fingers crossed” that her mother will make a recovery.

The 81-year-old comedienne is currently on life support after going into cardiac arrest on Thursday (28.08.14) and the 46-year-old beauty, Joan’s only child, is praying her mum’s condition will improve.

She said in a statement today (31.08.14): “Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed.”

A spokeswoman for Mount Sinai hospital in New York said she had no update on the ‘Fashion Police’ host’s condition as of midday today.

Melissa and her son Cooper, 13, flew to New York as soon as they were told about Joan’s health scare and the stunning star may be faced with the decision whether to switch off the machines keeping the blonde beauty alive next week if her condition doesn’t improve.

Joan was placed in a medically-induced coma three days ago after she stopped breathing while undergoing a routine operation on her vocal cords at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic.

Meanwhile, Joan appeared in “good spirits” the night before the throat surgery when she cracked jokes about death during a performance at Laurie Beechman Theatre on Wednesday night (27.08.14).

She told the audience: “I’m 81 – I could go at any moment. I could fall over right here and you all could say, ‘I was there!’ “
