Actor James Avery, best known his for beloved role as Uncle Phil opposite Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro on the hit sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,’ has died at the age of 65. The cause of death is not yet known, but his health had been deteriorating over the last few years having undergone open-heart surgery recently.

Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Uncle Phil’s son Carlton on the popular sitcom, announced his friend’s death on Twitter, referring to James as “like a second father to me.”
