ABSOLUT Vodka Mixology Challenge 2013 crowned a new champion last Tuesday, December 10th. The grand finale was an end to a culmination of a series of three hotly contested semi-finals, whereby eleven top professional bartenders representing various bars and hotels across Nairobi, Kenya faced-off.
Inspired by Kenya’s 50 years of independence celebrations, King’ Kline Ojal from Aqueous Bar emerged as the 2013 champion with his fruity signature cocktail, The ABSOLUT Misty Web. Flambuoyantly presented, Ojal’s cocktail was crafted from ABSOLUT Mango and served in a traditional African guard embedded with a Kenyan flag. As the ABSOLUT Vodka Mixology Challenge 2013 Champion, Ojal takes home a cash prize of KSh 100,000 and an all expenses paid trip to train with the best at the ABSOLUT Vodka headquarters in Sweden.
Joseph Mwawaka from Brew Bistro took second place with his signature cocktail ABSOLUT Persuasion, and received a cash prize of Ksh 50, 000, and an ABSOLUT hamper. Susan Mugure representing Mercury Lounge brought a remarkable twist to the competition with her elegant Champagne infused cocktail called ‘Cheers to the King of ABSOLUT’ to take third place and a cash prize of KSh 25,000 and an ABSOLUT hamper.
The panel of judges at the grand finale comprised of lifestyle enthusiasts: Susan Wong, Editor of Capital Lifestyle Magazine; Shreya Karia, strategist at SHK Consulting; and Shan Bartley a vodka connoisseur – all of whom found the competition to be very close and tightly contested.
“The level of creativity showcased by the contestants is remarkable. Nairobi has got great talent and skill; we envision a bigger and better challenge next year as we strive to bring the art of mixology and ABSOLUT Vodka to life,” explains Brian Owango, MD of Aqueous Concept and the ABSOLUT Vodka Brand Ambassador.
Congratulations to all of the competitors!
