Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor of “12 Years a Slave” wins SAG nominations


Nominations for the 20th Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were unveiled on Wednesday with the film winning the most nods, “12 Years a Slave,” paving the way.

One of 2013’s breakout stars, receiving a nomination for her supporting role in “12 Years a Slave” was Lupita Nyong’o, who plays a brutalized slave in the film.

Lupita’s co-star, British performer Chiwetel Ejiofor also was acknowledged for his role as Solomon Northup, a free black man who is kidnapped and sold in the same film, in the male actor in a leading role category.

The SAG Awards is typically one of the more reliable early indicators of how the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will vote on the Oscars. With “12 Years a Slave” winning the most nominations this year, the film is definitely considered a clear Oscar favourite.

The 20th Screen Actor’s Guild Awards will take place on Saturday, January 18.
