Kenya Fashion Week 2013 designer profile: Laurence Chauvin-Buthaud

Set for August 24th, Kenya Fashion Week 2013 will be bringing together 14 designers from across the world at Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, Kenya.
Introducing: Laurence Chauvin-Buthaud (Ivory Coast/Paris)

Laurence was born in Abidjan and raised in Switzerland. She moved to Paris where
she graduated from Studio Berçot fashion school. She began her career as fashion
designer while working with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and continued as trend
reporter for french TV shows on Canal+.

Strongly inspired by her african heritage, she launched in 2010 her project
LaurenceAirline : a menswear label based between Abidjan and Paris made in Africa
where local people are trained in sewing techniques and can learn from work
exchanges in a positive and conscious process.

As manager and designer behind the LaurenceAirline project, Laurence Chauvin-
Buthaud brings an international fashion perspective to contemporary Africa with a
sustainable developement frame.

She was awarded the Best Emerging Talent in Johannesburg fashion week in
november 2012.

She is one the faces of the Diesel+Edun campaign and Studio Africa.
