The Festival of African Fashion and Arts (FAFA) kicked off its 2013 campaign with the FAFA INSIGHT SHOW last weekend. The glamor-filled afternoon showcased the best of emerging designer talent. It is a culmination of an eight week process to bring together the most promising, innovative and passionate up-and-comers in the industry from around Kenya.

12 designers made the cut, showcasing both fashion and accessories, with the theme for 2013 being ‘Beyond Tribes’ #Kenya at 50′. Each of the entrants were required to submit three creations, sketches of their proposed mini collection they would present at FAFA INSIGHT if selected and the inspiration behind the collection.

Conceptualised by Ann McCreath, creator of Kenyan fashion label KikoRomeo and founder of FAFA, the objective of FAFA INSIGHT ‘is to draw attention to the creativity and sophistication that exists locally. We are geared towards inspiring creativity in Kenya and shining a light on the rich culture that exists’. Designers from previous years have gone on to develop commercially viable collections and gain significant exposure.
