Kenya was unfortunately left out of this year’s nominations for the BET Awards in the Best International Act, after the nods went to Nigeria’s 2 Face Idibia and Ice Prince, South Africa’s Toya Delazy and Donald, Ghana’s R2Bees and Uganda’s Radio and Weasel. The nominations were announced Tuesday evening.
Last year we got our first nomination through Camp Mulla, also nominated in Best International Act, but they lost to Sarkodie and Wizkid.
Rapper Drake leads the nominations with 12 nominations, including five separate nominations in the Video of the Year category, for: “Started From the Bottom,” “HYFR “No Lie,” (with 2 Chainz) “F—in’ Problems (with A$AP Rocky ) and Poetic Justice (with Kendrick Lamar).
Other big nominees include 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar with eight nominations each, A$AP Rocky and Jay-Z with five each, and Justin Timberlake and Miguel each earning four nominations.
Categories in contention include Best Female R$B/Pop Artist (Rihanna and Beyonce are nominated there), Best Male Pop Artist, Best Group, Best Collabo, Best Actor Best Actress, as well as Sportsman/Sportswoman of the year. For the full list of nominees, see here http://www.mtv.com/news/
This year’s awards are scheduled to air June 30 and will be hosted by actor/comedian Chris Tucker. Chris Brown and R Kelly have been confirmed to perform on the night.
