Drinking at social meet-ups use to be about having great conversation and fun, and perhaps getting ‘tipsy’ was just an after thought. How often do you hear of those that set out with the sole purpose of getting drunk and completely wasted?  Perhaps it’s your colleagues at work or even your peers at university?

Well, for those that are on a mission to get plastered, a couple of new alcohol trends have become popular over the last few years, and literally, blown-up on video-sharing site Youtube in the last year, popularizing what medical professionals warn as ‘dangerous.’

So what are these bizarre, inventive and incredibly moronic new alcohol-consumption methods that promise a ‘high’ only in a few minutes?

Vodka-soaked Tampons and Butt Chugging.

The practice of Vodka-soaked Tampons involve soaking tampons with alcohol, usually Vodka, to insert vaginally for women and anally for men.  Butt Chugging refers to the practice of ingesting alcohol through ones rectum.  Both, bringing a whole new meaning to “Bottoms up!”

Finnish girls have been credited with taking the practice of Vodka-soaked Tampons to mainstream media thanks to a March 1999 Reuters article, “Some teen-age Finnish girls are experimenting with tampons dipped in vodka as a way of getting tipsy without parents detecting boozy breath, an anti-drinking group said yesterday.”

As for Butt Chugging, it was first documented in 2010, with university fraternities credited with popularizing this alternative method of consuming alcohol.
