Kenyan TV productions win big at DISCOP

Kenyan productions scooped two out of three prizes at the just concluded DISCOP Africa event in South Africa.

Dreamcatcher Productions’ ‘Dads Can Cook’ and ‘Am I Dating an Idiot?’ by OnScreen Productions impressed judges with their pitches and are due to receive cash awards to help boost their stellar efforts.

Along with the cash, the Kenyan teams will receive expert advice from leading production experts who had converged at Sandton City for the event.

An elated Martin Munyua of Dreamcatcher was at a loss for words.

“I have no words to explain what I feel right now. Getting this show together has been an uphill task, financial gamble, as well as many sleepless nights and two years of putting together creating, etc.” he told Capital Lifestyle.

The show went on air for the first time this weekend with Nini Wacera as the host.

Toni Kamau was on hand in Sandton to see her work celebrated.

DISCOP Africa 2012 kicked off last week where nearly 200 filmmakers gathered to sell, buy, or scout for TV content exhibited there.

Quality films, TV series, animations and documentaries had a three-day window to strut their stuff in an audio-visual fashion show of sorts in the Johannesburg suburb.

‘Dads Can Cook’ is a TV show that transports successful business executives to the kitchen to show their prowess in a more domestic setting.
