Eric Wainaina + world stars help fight polio

How would you like to be photographed alongside Bill Gates, Jackie Chan or Desmond Tutu? Well, you now have the opportunity to add a photo of yourself beside theirs in what is touted to become the world’s biggest commercial today, for World Polio Day. It may not be quite the same, but it could be the closest you ever get to them.

The commercial is part of Rotary International’s ‘This Close’ campaign aimed at eradicating polio. The space between a held up thumb and index finger being how close. 27 years ago there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries reported annually. Last year 700 cases were reported in 3 countries.

Celebrity ambassadors including Kenya’s Eric Wainaina have signed up in support of the cause and as part of the campaign; the Rotary Foundation has released an ‘End Polio Now’ album featuring songs donated by Eric, Angelique Kidjo, Ziggy Marley and other well known artistes.

Music lovers can download the album off iTunes or shoprotary.org and help raise funds for the eradication of polio.

You can also show your support through Twitter or Facebook by visiting the ‘World Polio Day: End Polio Now’ Thunderclap page. Join #Rotary in making history. #endpolio’ will be posted on your timeline.

Upload your picture on endpolio.org today and apart from maybe taking part in the world’s biggest commercial and the warm fuzzy feeling you get from doing a good deed, you might just end up next to heartthrob Amanda Peet or business icon Bill Gates.

Before then, feast your eyes on this:
