The much anticipated iPhone 5 is finally here. Apple announced the release of the new iPhone the same way it has released new products since co-founder launched the first Mac; amidst secrecy, media frenzy and along with other Apple products and upgrades. Granted, iPhone 4S release was sort of an anti-climax except maybe for Siri. Apple has promised a faster, lighter, more efficient powerful gadget in iPhone 5. The major upgrades from the 4S version are:
It is larger
At 4 inches, the iPhone 5 has a bigger screen compared to its predecessors and has a resolution of 1,136 x 640. The extra length allows the phone to display an extra row of app icons on the homescreen. Apple said users will still navigate using one hand.
Faster
The iPhone 5 will be compatible with high-speed 4G LTE networks across the US, Asia and Europe. The phone packs an A6 chip, making iPhone 5 two times faster than the 4S meaning faster loading of web pages and audio files.
Thinner and lighter
Made out of glass and aluminum, the 112-grams iPhone is 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than the 4S.
Longer battery life
A long standing issue for iPhone lovers, Apple has finally listened. iPhone 5 has 8 hours of 3G talk time as well as 8 hours of browsing.
iOS 6
The phone comes with a new OS loaded with a nifty Apple Maps app, Siri updates, Passbook, Face time over 3G and shared photo streams.
iPhone 5 will start retailing on September 21 at $199 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB model.
