GTalk suffers global outage

If you are a daily user of Google talk, you might have noticed intermittent connection throughout the day. But as usual, you blamed it on your ISP. In a rare instance, Google talk was actually down globally, affecting most users at different times of the day.

Google provided hourly updates via the Google Talk Service Details page, noting there was a service outage at 1.50pm EDT.

“We’re aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users. The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behaviour. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 12:50 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.”

At 5:50pm, Google notified users that service had been restored in some parts, but gave no specific time for the total resolution of the problem.

The latest update on the page at 6:25PM shows the issue had been resolved, but gave no reason for the outage.

“The problem with Google Talk should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better. If you are still experiencing an issue, please contact us via the Google Help Center.”
