The Lounge Unplugged presents BILAL

American neo soul maestro Bilal Oliver is due in Kenya in June to grace this year’s Capital FM ‘The Lounge Unplugged’ concert, which has been christened as a gentleman’s affair.

Bilal will headline the three-man concert, which is scheduled to take place the Carnivore Gardens on June 16.

Capital FM’s Programmes Controller Somoina Kimojino-Kwikiriza says that Bilal will touch down at the JKIA a few days prior to the Unplugged session, with a six piece band.

“He’s coming with his entire band. If you look at his live performances on youtube, you will see how extremely talented his band is,” she told Capital Lifestyle.

Bilal, is a Grammy Nominee, who started singing in church when he was a young child.

He has produced three albums, the last earning him the Grammy nomination for a song about his autistic son.

Bilal has done impressive collaborations with all the big names in the world of neo-soul, including Common, Jill Scott, Guru Jazzmatazz, Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild and even the golden couple Jay Z and Beyonce.

His musical prowess wanders easily over jazz and alternative hip-hop, which he combines with the raw emotion present in neo-soul.

His conscious music will be backed up by Ugandan jazz-man Maurice Kirya and Kenya’s soft-spoken acoustic genius Stan.

This array of male talent will cost Sh2,500 for the purchase of advance tickets and Sh3,000 at the gate. Corporates of 10pax or more can get a special rate of Sh2,000.

Virgin Atlantic and Novida are co-sponsors of the grand event, which has in the past seen the likes of Anthony David, Hil St Soul and Vivian Green perform in front of packed audiences.
